Designing E-Book Virtual Book Markers with Web Search Enabling
More and more books are now available in virtual digital libraries on the Internet. Both Microsoft and Google have spearheaded huge digital library initiatives with government agencies and nonprofit groups including many of the top universities throughout the world. Bringing all this information to the public is doing wonders in educating the human race.
As the digital divide is crossed and more and more people have Internet access soon the entire world will have virtual e-books available to read. I believe that the users and readers of these e-books online should be able to have virtual book markers. How would this work you ask?
The virtual bookmarker could be something that the user clicks on (a tab on top of the screen) after they are done reading to help them with a placeholder. When the virtual bookmarker is clicked, it will come down on the page in perhaps a different color like a light blue. In doing so it would also have a search box which when accessed either Microsoft Live Search or Google.
Google might pay for this innovation project by also having AdSense on the book marker or underneath the search box would be a list of keywords which were on those pages or that chapter.
This would revolutionize interactive books on the Internet and make it easy for people to find their place when they came back to finish reading the book. I also believe it would be good if once the bookmarker was set, the system would automatically ask the user if they would like to bookmark it in their browser as well. That way they could go back to the exact same page.
The future of digital libraries is here and we need to make them user-friendly. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple, to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
