Information Overload - Negative Effects to Oneself





The term information overload refers to a situation where a person is having a difficulty in understanding an issue and at the same time formulating a decision due to the presence of too much information.

This information overload will definitely produce a tremendous effect in ones mental capacity to act intelligently. Having this kind of situation will exhibit a more stressful situation thus hampering ones decision making.

By knowing its negative effects, one can be prepared of the outcome of this situation. Here are some the negative effects of information overload to a persons' manner of making decisions.

A person becomes highly selective. Ones a person is suffering from information overload, he becomes more selective in choosing an option. He will tend to ignore a big amount of information thus not going beyond to better options.

Oftentimes makes mistakes. A person having that vast amount of information in his brain tends to commit mistakes frequently as he tends to select an easier option and sacrificing better ones.

Wastes more time thinking. Ones a person is mentally tired, he tends to stare at a thing or place longer thinking about something yet not reaching for a decision.

Needs more time in reaching a decision. A person who has vast information in his mind tends to neglect or pinpoint exact solutions for a problem. This is absolutely anchored on the fact that he is mentally tired.

These entire negative effects if information overload boils down into one major concept, that the human brain can only handle a certain amount of information in an instance. After that, the brain begins to tire down thus neglects some important matters.
