Stressful Information Overload
Stressful Information Overload
Have you ever felt uncomfortable, irritated, or even stressed about information overload? Information overload is something that many of us doing internet marketing suffer at one time or another, when we don't have a set of steps to deal effectively with the information we gather about business online.
With so many avenues to explore and so many business plans or possibilities online, not to have a prepared or known plan of action can be very overwhelming at times. Our capacity to react, confront or respond to the overloading of the information gathered, if not present, can cause us to become stressful when dealing with all this information.
I don't know how many definitions of what 'stress' is can you find in the dictionaries or on the internet. Most of them, you will find, deal with our body and mental inadequacy to cope with the changes that life threats or conditions bring to our life.
Not being able to react and respond correctly to many challenges that threatens us, can bring about stressful situations in most of us. And information overload is, I have to admit, at times overwhelming to the extent of causing us not only stressful incapacity but also total paralysis.
Did you also suffered that way sometimes? By reading blogs, comments on forums and on social networks, articles and such, this is a common complaint among internet marketers in general, even sometimes for experienced successful marketers.
The important thing is this: How to deal with and overcome 'stressful information overload', that is a question we need to discuss and find solutions to. Having emotional stress or being with bodily tension of any sort is not what we desire to be with, and so what we want to know is how to avoid these traits or, when we have them, how to get rid of them.
Before finding the solution to avoid stress, perhaps we need to know what factors or causes bring about the stress in the first place. There are so many factors that bring about stress: environmental stress, internal stresses, external stress, home and family stress, work-related stress and the list goes on and on.
Even joyful situations sometimes can cause us to suffer unexpected stress. Like the launch of our new product for example; we know that we have to meet deadlines and that we need to inform a few people about it, prepare and send emails, contact affiliates and JV partners and everything else that requires the launch to be ready on time.
Perhaps one of the worst stressors for us are the ones that come from within, you know, the silent ones that are so powerful because they eat at us causing us all kinds of add, depression or insomnia as well as digestive disorders and even allergies of many sorts. Therefore there are medical implications for treating these disorders and a visit to a specialist is often required.
May be our own internal disposition is predisposed towards stress in general depending on how we look at ourselves. Clearly now, there are great differences about the way we can get more or less stress because we are all unique individuals with diverse beliefs systems and responses to challenges.
What personality traits would welcome stress in our life? Well, a few really. Imagine what would happen if we had low self-esteem and no confidence; what can happen when we do not look after ourselves and neglect our appearance, or engage in negative personality habits unaccepted socially.
You can see that the causes for stress accumulate greatly by what we just stated, but there are untold reasons for our everyday stress to shoot up even more. This is like an earthquake of enormous proportions, something that actually kills many people daily when it is not stopped in time. The 'silent' killer as many people call it.
And, believe it or not, we all have some of it or (unknowingly) a lot of it and this is dangerous so we must all control it or avoid it altogether. But it is not that easy really. We can start with finding out and understand what is it that is causing our stress daily.
When we actually find the signals or the causes of stress, we better acknowledge them and start the process of creating a balance for coping with the causes or even fighting them. The last thing we want to do is being relaxed about this to the point of aggravating the issues.
You most likely know the signals of stress since almost everyone experience them at one time or another. You know, the dry mouth, the profusely sweat, the heavier breath the sick feeling in the stomach, the quicker heartbeats and many more.
With those signals, your productivity is likely to suffer as a result, since your ability to concentrate diminishes as you are unable to make clear choices or to think clearly. And with that, our ability to strategize goes out of the window. All this is a lot to lose by just allowing the stress to reign in our life.
What could happen if we do nothing to combat stress? My goodness, that would be so terrible for any of us, because long-term damage from stress is too painful to contemplate even if it does not kill us. Imagine if your daily habits change as a consequence of stress; your food intake, your sleeping habits, your social and work scene, your vices, mood changes and on and on. Too dangerous these changes!
There is no way we can catalogue, learn and deal well with a lot of information in these conditions of stress. Our ability to organize and respond to the overflow of ideas as a consequence of too much information, goes away and leaves us powerless.
The answer is to combat stress with positive influences of our mind, allowing us to respond in the right way against the negative, grinding, aggravating effects of stress in our life. We need to respond to these circumstances differently than the majority of people and channel our energy positively with enthusiasm and determination.
The previous paragraph is very generic and really a set of steps to combat stress can be formulated and perhaps will be the content for another article later. For now though, keep in mind that stress needs to be faced, understood, acknowledge and combated enthusiastically with purpose and vigor.
